Today we enjoyed making shakers which were decorated with the prints of African animals. We will be writing instructions about how we made them as our 'Hot Write' later in the week.
On March 12th, 15 of our Key Stage 1 pupils took part in a cricket festival at the County Ground in Northampton. The children really enjoyed working together under the guidance of the cricket coaches at the different skills stations. We could see their skills developing throughout the afternoon which was brilliant. Well done to all those children who took part. As part of British Science Week we have been celebrating the diversity of our planet. We looked at photographs of African animals that had coats or skin that helps them to blend into their surroundings and environment. This is called camouflaging and is one of the ways that some animals are adapted to live in their African habitat. We then chose and used appropriate colours to colour in our butterflies so that they would be camouflaged and blend into a spot that we had chosen in the environment of our classroom. We have been very busy creating artwork inspired by African mud huts. We used oil pastels to draw the bright, colourful and repeating patterns and straw for the roof. There were lots of giggles in Science when we learnt about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We had to use our detective skills to see what was inside the pretend play doh poo samples to help us to decide which animal they might belong to. Sample A was from a carnivore. It had meat and bones inside. Sample B was from an omnivore. It had meat, bones, leaves and seeds inside. Sample C was from a herbivore. It had leaves and seeds inside. Today we had a visitor from St John Ambulance to teach us about First Aid. We learnt the special checks we need to do in a primary survey if someone is unresponsive and how to put someone in the recovery position. Today we walked to Saint Nicholas Church in Overstone to Baptise Baby Olivia. During the service Reverend Katrina made a cross on Olivia's forehead using holy oil and poured water over her head to welcome her to God's family. At the end of the service, Olivia received three gifts - a candle, a children's Bible and her Baptism certificate. After looking at Handa's fruit basket, we worked really hard to design and make our own delicious and colourful fruit salads. Before we started, we thought about the things we needed to do to keep safe and hygienic. We washed our hands, took off our watches, rolled our sleeves back and tied our hair up. We also learnt about the bridge cut, the claw cut and the fork secure cut to keep our fingers out of the way and safe. We had to choose and use a range of tools and equipment to help us to make our fruit salad. We carefully used a peeler to peel the skin off of the fruits and a knife and a chopping board to carefully cut and shape the fruits into small pieces to make our healthy fruit salads. |
