Today we made repeating patterns using lots of different objects. At each station we had to look carefully at the pattern and then continue it. We were very good at explaining the repeating section of each pattern and were able to look at differences between shapes, sizes and colours.
As a special treat for working so hard this half term, Year 1 enjoyed watching the BBC animation of Zog this morning and comparing similarities and differences between this and the book.
Today Reverend Katrina visited Year 1 to tell us her favourite Bible story about Jesus and explain why this is special to her. She shared with us the story of Jesus walking on water and explained that reading the Bible and praying to God help her to follow Jesus' teachings and messages in her life.
This week we have been working hard in groups to practise and perform puppet shows which re-tell the story of Zog. We sang our vegetable song beautifully for the guests at the Harvest Tea Party. Thank you for all of your generous donations of food and toiletries for The Hope Centre. This week two children from each class went in the mini bus with Mrs Mardell to deliver the donations. We have drawn our own castle themed BeeBot Worlds and had lots of fun coding the BeeBots to get from one place to another. Today we learnt our new class story map for Zog by Julia Donaldson. We worked really hard to identify the structure and which part was the beginning, the middle and the ending of the story. We then worked in groups to draw our own story maps and practise re-telling the story using these. Today we learnt that the primary colours are red, blue and yellow and that we can't mix these and that the secondary colours are orange, green and purple which we can make using the primary colours. We had great fun colour mixing and creating our own colour wheels. Today we learnt about the Union Flag. We found out that it is also called the Union Jack, it is the national flag of the United Kingdom and includes flags from England, Scotland and Ireland. |
