A fantastic assembly about Zimbabwe and all the children spoke, sung and danced confidently and independently. Well Done Reception!
Thank you to Ewan's Dad Jeff who came in to talk to the children. Jeff works at Sywell Country Park. We learnt a lot about changes, habitats, living things and lots of interesting facts. We had lots of fun!
"In Zimbabwe children eat Sadza. I eat pizza and pasta."
"In Zimbabwe they don't have radiators, they make fires." "In Zimbabwe, after school, they do homework and look after the cows. In Overstone, after school, I play with my toys." What a great day out at Woburn Safari Park. The children were very well behaved. We learnt lots about animals habitat and we saw lots of wild animals. Thankfully no one was eaten by lions or tigers!
This week we have been looking at what it means to be healthy. We have discussed 5 ways of to stay healthy - food (plenty of fruit and vegetables), water, exercise, sleep and cleanliness. During the week we read and watched the animated story of Handa's Surprise and discovered different tropical fruits; banana, avocado, guava, passion fruit, mango, pineapple, orange and tangerine. We tried these fruits in class and our favourite fruit was the orange!
We also enjoyed participating in some physical exercise, dancing. Copying the moves on the interactive white board. It was lots of fun, especially when we knew the words to the songs too! The children also liked playing the healthy foods game, rolling the dice and moving around the board, collecting all the foods they need for a healthy meal. Miss Gilham (Student Teacher) Thank you very much to TK and Liam's mum, we found Zimbabwe on a map of Africa, we learnt how to make peanut butter from scratch, we learnt all about Zimbabwean culture, we found out what popcorn is made out of, we played instruments and sang along to African music, we listened to a traditional story and we saw how they traditionally carry children on their backs to help them sleep. We learnt so much and we had lots of fun!
Thank you to Shay's parents for bringing in the snakes. We learnt so much about snakes and we loved holding and stroking them.
