Class 3 finished their Italian topic in style with a visit to Frankie and Benny's at Riverside. The children loved making their pizzas and eating them, of course! Some of the pizzas might even have made it home! They took home colouring books, a certificate and even some sweets. We would like to thank the staff at Frankie and Benny's for looking after us so well, especially Melissa.
Our year 3 girls had great fun at the STEAM Day at Northampton University. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) event was held to inspire girls to follow a career in one of these areas. Lilly-Mae, Isobel, Mia, Lauren, Lucy, Tinashe, Eleanor, Chloe-Anne and Hollie all had an amazing day - in fact they all said it was eggcellent! (One of the many 'egg' jokes they cracked on the day!) The egg rolling activity was Mia's favourite because the lady who ran the workshop kept cracking lots of egg related jokes. Eleanor also said the egg rolling was her favourite. The girls had to build a ramp to get the eggs over to the other side and Eleanor's team won. Lauren was also on the same team and she enjoyed it because it was so much fun. Lilly-Mae agreed with these girls and chose the egg rolling as her favourite activity because it was fun. Building balloon powered lego cars was the favourite activity for Isobel, Chloe-Anne, Lucy and Hollie. Chloe-Anne liked it because she managed to get her car to cross the finishing line. Isobel enjoyed having fun with the lego while Lucy and Hollie liked using the balloons to make the cars go. All the girls liked the fact that they got to keep the balloons! Tinashe's favourite part of the day was the strawberry DNA experiment where the girls mashed up strawberries to extract their DNA. She enjoyed it because she learnt new things. Class 3 have enjoyed studying Leonardo Da VInci's Mona Lisa. They created puzzles of the picture by working in groups and choosing a section to complete. Here are the finished portraits. This week we have been planning our warning stories. We learnt the story of Kassim and the hungry fox and used it as a model for our own stories. We drew story maps and enjoyed telling our stories to other children. Here are some examples of our story maps. We all enjoyed a visit from the firefighters at Moulton Fire Station. They taught us about fire safety and reminded us what we should do if there was a fire at home or at school. We particularly enjoyed looking at the fire engine close up and having the chance to sit it in. It inspired some of us to become firefighters when we're older. Clases 3 showcased their amazing musical talents on Friday when they performed their Samba carnival. They had been learning the Samba with Mr Taylor from NMPAT for 10 weeks and had worked very hard to learn how to play different rhythms on different instruments. In front of an audience of children, teachers and parents, they showed how they learned the different rhythms and put all these together in a final composition. They are very keen for Mr Taylor to come back to teach them some more!
We enjoyed our visit to the church to find out more about the meaning of the Christmas story. We wrote messages and prayers for what we would like the future to be like, took part in art and craft activities and enjoyed some role play too.
Class 3 took on the roles of Celts and Roman Soldiers on Friday when we role played the Roman Invasion of Britain. The children particularly enjoyed being Roman soldiers and enthusiastically marched towards the waiting Celts! |
