We had a fantastic afternoon learning about how polar animals survive and keep warm in the freezing cold temperatures, icy water and wind using the blubber glove experiment.
When we put our hands into the bowl of frozen ice, they quickly got too cold and we had to take them out of the bowl but when we put our hands inside the bag of lard and then into the frozen ice we discovered that we couldn’t feel the cold temperature of the ice. This is because the lard acted like the polar animal’s blubber and kept our hands warm.
