This week in Talk for Writing we have been planning and learning our recount about planting our magic beans and our beanstalk growing. We have been practising our text map with actions to help us remember it so we are ready to write it later this week.
Year 1, can you use our text map to teach someone at home our recount? Year 1 have had a special delivery! Inside the parcel we found a bag full of beautiful, gold magic beans and a tatty, ripped letter from the giant commanding us to plant them. We spent time thinking about whether or not we should plant the magic beans. As a class, we decided to plant the magic beans. We carefully tipped them into the plant pot and have left them to grow. We predict that a beanstalk might grow. I wonder what we will find tomorrow... This afternoon we were lucky enough to have a taster session from Matt the Acrobat and Kevin the Dancer. We had lots of fun trying some breakdancing and some acrobatics on the air track. Details of the clubs have been sent home on leaflets today or can be found in the last photograph on this post. Now that the tarmac has dried, today was the grand opening of the 'Captain Mannering' which is the newly installed play equipment on the field. We had a great time this afternoon playing on it and exploring all of its features. This morning we visited the MacMIllan Coffee Morning. We had a great time donating our money to charity and enjoying the yummy cakes. Thank you for all of your generous donations. Today in English we enjoyed reading Zog by Julia Donaldson. As a class, we then walked around the school grounds to follow the clues that Miss Cox had hidden. We took the book with us to help us to retrieve the information to answer the questions accurately. The answer to each question told us where around our school to look for the next clue. We had great fun and loved finding Madam Dragon at the end of our treasure hunt who had a golden star for each of us. Today we learnt that an algorithm is a set of instructions and worked in teams to create algorithms to direct our Bee Bot from one location on our map to another. This afternoon we had a workshop from the Life Education Bus. It was all about how to keep our bodies healthy. We learnt that our bodies need 5 things to keep them healthy: sleep, water, healthy foods, exercise and oxygen. Harold then taught us about the different types of healthy foods. He told us about different food groups like dairy which gives us strong bones and teeth, proteins which give us strong muscles, vegetables and fruit which keep us healthy and carbohydrates which give us energy. Harold was really impressed with our knowledge and how carefully we listened to him and Pamela. This week in Talk for Writing we have been learning about recounts. We have been practising our text map about our dragon egg hunt with actions to help us remember it.
