Today we heard a knock at the door. When Miss Cox went to investigate, there was a basket of fruit for Year 1 with a note from Handa left in the library. We took it in turns to choose a fruit from Handa's basket and pass it around the circle. We came up with some fantastic adjectives to describe the exotic and interesting fruits.

Today we started our learning on instruction writing by completing our 'Cold Write' on how to make pancakes. We worked brilliantly as a class to mix the batter and make a pancake. In our Computing lessons, we thought about what the word ‘technology’ means and learnt that it is anything that is made by people that helps us to do anything. In groups, we cut out and sorted some images into things that are technology and things that are not technology. Later in the term, we will be learning how to log on to the ChromeBooks and developing our mouse and keyboard skills. This week in our Art lessons we looked at African patterns. We had a go at drawing our own by carefully using the shapes and colours in the African patterns we looked at. Welcome back to another fun-filled and exciting half term. Our classroom is ready for our new topic which will be 'Amazing Africa'. Today we looked at Wassily Kandinsky's 'Squares with Concentric Circles' artwork and imitated his style using bright colours and watercolour pencils to create our own Valentine's hearts. We had a fantastic afternoon learning about how polar animals survive and keep warm in the freezing cold temperatures, icy water and wind using the blubber glove experiment. When we put our hands into the bowl of frozen ice, they quickly got too cold and we had to take them out of the bowl but when we put our hands inside the bag of lard and then into the frozen ice we discovered that we couldn’t feel the cold temperature of the ice. This is because the lard acted like the polar animal’s blubber and kept our hands warm. This week we have been thinking about arguments for and against the question ‘Should penguins be kept in zoos?’ After watching videos of penguins in zoos being dressed up and used to entertain people in a parade and another video of them in their natural habitat of the Polar Regions, we came up with lots of interesting points to share which we drew on our posters which we shared when we performed our discussion text. Today we performed our class assembly to the rest of the school to share our learning about the Polar Regions. Today we looked at the designs we drew during our Home Learning that used coils to show things found in the Polar Regions and chose our favourite one. We drew this on a piece of card and then carefully used string to trace over the lines on our design to create our string printing block. It was very tricky but we all did a great job and kept trying our best. We will be producing pieces of artwork using our string printing blocks next week. |
