Today we had a very special treat in Golden Time. Nellie came to join us for a special extra play time.
Today we had a taster session for Ultimate Frisbee. We learnt how to throw a frisbee using the right technique and then enjoyed using our new skills to play some team games. We had lots of fun! In our Topic lessons this week we have been thinking about how Overstone village has changed since our Grandparents were little. Today we went on a walk around the village to look for important features to help us to draw a map of it. This week we finished our wonderful self portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo's artwork by adding tissue paper flowers to them. This week in art we have started to create our own self portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo. We have replicated her large, dark eyebrows and thought carefully about the shade of colour to use for our hair and skin. We will be finishing these off next week by adding tissue paper flowers. We have been looking closely at Frida Kahlo's artwork in our lessons this term. We noticed that she used colours to help to show how she was feeling in her self portraits. To explore this further and think about colours that make us feel happy and sad we created our own collaged mood boards using a range of different materials. This week in our Science lessons we used our senses and clues from Ella to help her to identify which of the teddy bears in the lost property was hers. The clues were: My teddy smells minty. When I squeeze him he makes a squeaky sound. He likes to eat apples. He feels soft and fluffy. His footprint is 10cm long. We found out that Danny was her missing teddy. Today we spent time exploring some of the old toys that are in our Grandma’s Kitchen role play area. We thought carefully as we played them about the materials that they were made from and some of the ways that they are different to our toys today. We noticed that none of the old toys used electricity like our video games do today and that lots of the pieces for the board games were made from cardboard and metal rather than plastic. |
