This week we have been very busy learning about the life of Amelia Earhart and why she is an inspirational person. Here is a photo of all of our brilliant work on display in the corridor.
Today the three little knights decided it was time for them to leave the big castle in our classroom and build themselves a new castle. As Year 1 are experts at knowing the properties of materials, we set to work building each of the three little knights a new castle. Some of the castles were made from bricks, some of the castles were made from straws and some of the castles were made from wood. Unfortunately the big bad dragon came and he huffed and puffed at our castles. The straw castle blew away and the wooden castle fell down but the brick castles stayed strong. This week we have been working hard in groups to practise and perform puppet shows which re-tell the story of Zog. Today we started to look at the properties of 3D shapes by making them using sticks and play-doh. The play-doh represented the vertices and the sticks represented the edges. Today we learnt our new class story map for Zog by Julia Donaldson. We worked really hard to identify the structure and which part was the beginning, the middle and the ending of the story. We then worked in groups to draw our own story maps and practise re-telling the story using these. Today in PSHE we shared photographs of people who are special to us. We enjoyed telling our class about our families, friends, cousins and pets. We had a special visit from Gary the snail. After creating beautiful castle artwork using water colours earlier in the week, today we explored how we could create castle artwork using an App on the tablets. |
