We have been developing our art skills this week to make beautiful and colourful castle artwork. We carefully drew our castles in pencil, added detail using wax crayons and then added the vibrant colours using watercolour paints.
This week in Talk for Writing we have been planning and learning our recount about planting our magic beans and our beanstalk growing. We have been practising our text map with actions to help us remember it so we are ready to write it later this week.
Year 1, can you use our text map to teach someone at home our recount? This morning, Year 1 arrived at school to find that the magic beans that we had planted on Friday had grown into a tall, green beanstalk in our classroom!
Just after playtime today, Year 1 had a special delivery! Inside the parcel we found a bag full of beautiful, gold beans and a tatty, ripped letter from the giant commanding us to plant them. We spent time thinking about whether or not we should plant the magic beans. As a class, we decided to plant them. We carefully tipped them into a plant pot, watered them and left them near the sunshine over the weekend. I wonder what we will find on Monday... Today in English we enjoyed reading Zog by Julia Donaldson. As a class, we then walked around the school grounds to follow the clues that Miss Cox had hidden. We took the book with us to help us to retrieve the information to answer the questions accurately. The answer to each question told us where around our school to look for the next clue. We had great fun and loved finding Madam Dragon at the end of our treasure hunt who had a golden star for each of us. This week in Talk for Writing we have been learning about recounts. We have been practising our text map about our dragon egg hunt with actions to help us remember it.
Year 1, can you use our text map to teach someone at home our recount? Today we each made a 'mini me' for one of our class displays. Don't they look fantastic! Today we learnt that the primary colours are red, blue and yellow and that we can't mix these and that the secondary colours are orange, green and purple which we can make by mixing two of the primary colours together. We had great fun colour mixing and creating our own colour wheels. Today we received an email from Mrs Mardell. She needed our help! There had been sightings of dragons at school and she asked us to find out if there was still a dragon nearby. We were very excited! We went to look for clues on the playground. We found three dragon eggs but one had cracked. We watched the CCTV which showed that the dragon had been in our outdoor classroom! Today in Computing we learnt that an algorithm is a set of instructions. We worked really hard in our teams to use algorithms to direct our Bee Bot from one place on our map to another. |
