On March 12th, 15 of our Key Stage 1 pupils took part in a cricket festival at the County Ground in Northampton. The children really enjoyed working together under the guidance of the cricket coaches at the different skills stations. We could see their skills developing throughout the afternoon which was brilliant. Well done to all those children who took part.
On March 10th, 7 of our pupils took part in a swimming gala at Daventry Leisure Centre. The children swam brilliantly, taking part in both individual and relay races. There were some very close finishes and the swimmers really enjoyed the event. They finished in 5th place out of the 16 schools that took part; a great result! They were only 3 points behind the school which finished in 3rd place which shows how close the competition was. Well done swimmers!
Congratulations to Maisey, Madi, Thomas and Tadiwa who represented the Daventry District at the County Gymnastics Finals on February 25th. 270 schools from around the county competed in the district competitions and after winning theirs, our 4 gymnasts went on to compete at County level. There were 10 schools represented and Overstone finished in 4th place, which is fantastic. The children have worked really hard and all performed so well. Congratulations to the team and a huge thank you to their coach, Mrs Barber, who has once again given a huge amount of her time to enable the children to experience competing at this level and to do so well.
On January 22nd, some of our Year 5 and 6 children travelled to Moulton Sports Complex to participate in a Sportshall Athletics competition. The children took part in a variety of track and field events and we saw some amazing individual and team performances. Well done to all our athletes who represented the school brilliantly.
Our Year 5,6 Gymnastics team recently competed in a development competition at Phoenix Gym Club in Daventry. The competition took place on Monday December 9th and 13 schools from the district took part. The children performed their skills beautifully on the day and finished in 4th place overall which was an excellent result. A special mention for Aaron who agreed to compete just a couple of hours before the competition due to one of the gymnasts being poorly. He learnt the routines in double quick time and actually won an individual medal for the highest vault score of the day! Well done to Joe too who had also worked really hard to learn the routines and had been a great team player throughout training but unfortunately had to withdraw on the day due to illness.
Some of our year 3 and 4 pupils took part in a gymnastics competition at Phoenix Gym Club in Daventry on December 2nd. The children had to learn and perform a body management and a floor routine and they also had to complete a vault. There were 14 teams from the district competing on the day and 2 of them were from Overstone Primary School. One team finished in 9th position and the other finished 1st! They will go forward to represent the district in the County Finals in February. One of our pupils, Shay, was awarded the highest mark of the event for his vault. There were 56 children competing so this was a great achievement. Congratulations to all our gymnasts. A huge well done to our Year 5,6 Strictly team who performed at The Derngate Theatre on Saturday November 23rd. The team worked so hard over a period of 6 weeks to learn their American Smooth Waltz and their Cha Cha Cha routines. They danced beautifully on the day, finishing in 3rd place. Congratulations to all of the dancers who really deserved their success. Another lovely shiny glitterball for the trophy cabinet!
This year, we were shortlisted from the nominations for Primary Sports school of the Year for the Daventry District. On Thursday October 24th, Mrs Mardell attended the Sports Awards with two of last year's sports leaders, Grace and Eleanor. It was a great evening and Overstone Primary School were actually announced winners of the award! The lovely glass trophy was presented by Saints player, Tommy Freeman. Well done team Overstone! On Tuesday 15th October, some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to Moulton College to take part in a netball tournament with other schools from our cluster. The children played really well as a team and they scored some amazing goals. They finished 3rd overall. Well done to everyone who played.
