On Monday November 29th, four of our year 3 children took part in a gymnastics competition at Phoenix Gym Club in Daventry. They spent lots of time learning and practising their routines and all their hard work and determination certainly paid off as they were amazing on the day, finishing 2nd out of 11 schools. This means that they will represent the district at the county finals in March. Thank you to Mrs Barber who prepared the children for the competition.
On Sunday November 28th, our year 5/6 Strictly team performed at the Deco Theatre in Northampton. The children worked so hard to learn their American Smooth Waltz and their Cha Cha Cha and they danced brilliantly, finishing in 3rd place. They looked amazing and thoroughly enjoyed their time on the big stage. The team has now qualified for the regional finals in June. Thank you to Mrs Viney and to Grace, one of our ex pupils, who gave their time to train the children with me and to support them at the show on Sunday. It was also lovely to see 4 ex Overstone Primary School pupils in the show dance performed by members of Step by Step Dance School. They developed a love of latin and ballroom dance after being introduced to it through taking part in the Strictly competition here at Overstone and are still enjoying their dancing today.
On Wednesday November 24th, 39 of our key stage 2 pupils travelled to Daventry Sports Park to take part in a cross country event. This was challenging as the children had to run long distances but they all showed excellent determination and resilience and every one of them completed the course. There were about 70 runners in each race and the following children finished in 15th place or higher.
Josh Farmer – 4th Afiya Barnes -Thomas – 6th Jobi Jessup- Blincowe – 11th Leah Spencer – 12th Ava Armstrong – 14th Ore Alo – 15th On Friday November 12th, some of our year 5 and 6 pupils travelled to Daventry to take part in a football tournament. It was a big event which was organised by the School Sports Partnership and 20 schools from the Daventry and South Northants district took part. The children represented Overstone brilliantly, showing excellent sportsmanship, great teamwork and a huge amount of skill. They finished in 3rd place which was an amazing achievement and now hope to qualify for the County finals in January.
Well done to all the children who took part and thank you to Mr Farmer for his support. It was lovely to be able to be out at an event with the children again; I was so proud of every one of them. Here they are looking very smart, wearing our new football kit for the first time! |
